Alden Volunteers is seeking artists for original sculptures to display throughout the Village of Alden. Selected pieces should showcase art and the natural environment. Sculptures will remain outside and uncovered throughout the loan period. Therefore, it must be made sufficiently durable to withstand exposure to the Northern Michigan weather conditions.

Artist should complete and submit the online application, which will be reviewed by a qualified juror panel. If approved, the location of the sculpture in Alden Michigan shall be a mutually acceptable site determined by Alden Volunteers and the Artist, and approved by Helena Township or the owner(s) of the property where the sculpture may be located. Sculptures will remain on display at least one year.

JURORS
Jan Schilling, Laura Kohl, and Heather Stewart make up our jury panel.

Although Alden likes to claim Jan Schilling as its own treasure, her accolades are heard far beyond our little Northern Michigan town. Jan is a signature member of The Pennsylvania Watercolor Society who received her degree with a major in Art from Central Michigan University, and a Masters of Art, with a major in painting form, at West Virginia University. As owner of The Pear Tree Gallery & Boutique in downtown Alden, Jan blends her many landscape & floral compositions with an eclectic mix of Oriina artwork from a variety of artists, including pottery, jewelry and cloth, into a unique and beautiful space that whisper “home” the moment you walk through the door.

Laura Kohl has lived in Alden and worked in Antrim County for over 35 years. Her passion has always been finding new ways to express herself through art. Laura received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and her Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Heather Stewart, Chair of the Alden Art Walk and Secretary of Alden Volunteers, is also a small business owner. She designs sterling silver “Island Inspired Jewelry” for Torch Lake and PIB jewelry on Put-in-Bay/South Bass Island located on Lake Erie in Ohio. Locally, her pieces can be found at The Pear Tree Gallery & Boutique in downtown Alden. Heather attended Bowling Green State University/Firelands Campus and moved to Bellaire from Dublin Ohio just a few years ago.
